About Course
The Futuristic Interactive Technologies research group (also called “Interactive Technologies of the Future”) at Turku UAS is dedicated to advancing interactive and metaverse-related technologies in collaboration with industry. Their RDI (research, development, innovation) efforts aim to embed interactive solutions across multiple sectors — among them technology, welfare, education, and tourism — by working closely with real-world industrial partners. A key strength of the group is in building its own industrial-oriented metaverse infrastructure, designed especially for training and operational environments. One highlighted case is a teleoperation solution on Nokia’s RXRM platform, where Turku UAS uses Nokia’s real-time extended reality multimedia tools to build a remotely controlled robot with live cameras and Heads-Up Display (HUD) for real-time sensor sharing. The research group has been recognized with awards at international conferences: e.g. Work-In-Progress Award (IEEE VS-Games 2014), Best Applied Games Award (Finnish Game Awards 2019), Best Paper Awards in Future Internet Journal and ACM and IEEE forums, among others. Their infrastructure is anchored by FIT Turku — the Competence Center for Futuristic Interactive Technologies, which conducts applied R&D in VR/AR/MR and offers custom solutions to partners.
